COMMON SANCTIONS
FOR VIOLATIONS OF THE CODE OF STUDENT CONDUCT
These are minimum sanctions:
Parental Notification: The University of Alabama provides notification to parents of students under the age of 21 of violations of the University's alcohol and drug policies. This notification is in the form of a letter.
Failure to Appear: If you fail to show for a scheduled appointment with Judicial Affairs, you will be charged a $25 fee.
Throwing Objects at UA Sporting Events:
1st Offense: Loss of ticket privileges to that sports' events for three (3) consecutive games(to roll over to next season if applicable), Capstone Character Class
2nd Offense: INDEFINITE loss of ticket privileges for that sports' events.
3rd Offense: Loss of ticket privileges for ALL UA sporting events during remainder of student's academic career.
Drug Offenses
Sale/Distribution or Felony Possession of Narcotics or Controlled Substances Felony Possession of Narcotics or Controlled Substances
Interim Suspension will be implemented
Suspension ; Expulsion is possible
IF it is determined during the investigative process that only a small amount was involved during the distribution, the following sanctions may apply:
- Deferred suspension
- Verification of your participation in and completion of, court ordered substance abuse classes, or an intense out-patient program.
- Random drug screens throughout matriculation at UA
- Community or Fine
- Follow-up meetings throughout matriculation at UA
Use/Possession of Marijuana (misdemeanor)
- Probation
- Substance abuse counseling
- Random Drug Screens
- Community Service or Fines
- Follow-up Meetings
A second drug offense is grounds for suspension from UA
Minor in Possession:
1st: Disciplinary Warning, Alcohol Education Workshop ($50 fee), Community Service Project, Parental Notification
2nd: Disciplinary Warning, AlcoholEdu sanction course or one-on-one alcohol education, $100 alcohol programming fee
3rd: Probation, Counseling Center referral, follow-up meetings, $150 alcohol programming fee
Public Intoxication: Probation, verification of court ordered alcohol classes, follow-up meetings, 20 hours community service or $100 alcohol programming fee
D.U.I.: Probation, verification of court ordered alcohol classes, follow-up meetings, 40 hours community service or $200 alcohol programming fee
Fake ID: Capstone Character Class ($50 fee)
Open Container: Disciplinary Warning, Open Container Quiz, $50 alcohol programming fee.
